Description
Sheerness traces Kent's island shore with a long promenade and pale blue sea, where distant roofs and a church spire reveal the port town beyond its open beachfront.
On the north-west corner of the Isle of Sheppey, Sheerness stands beside the Medway's mouth in north Kent. Its naval dockyard occupied the peninsula at the river entrance, giving the town a maritime identity that extends beyond its beaches and seafront walks.
The paved promenade runs straight towards a low cluster of roofs and a distant spire. Blue-grey water fills the left side, edged by a narrow ochre beach. Cream clouds stretch over a huge area of sky, while the seawall throws deep shade across the right. Clear air and long sunlight suggest a mild summer day along this exposed island frontage.
