Description
Shingle Street on Suffolk's North Sea shore has an exposed coastal character, with white cottages beside a sweeping beach where blue water and a huge sky dominate the view.
Shingle Street is a small coastal settlement in Suffolk facing the North Sea. Its shore includes a percolation lagoon, part of a landscape where water and shingle meet along the county's low eastern edge, rather than the cliffs found on many other British coasts.
A long row of white cottages stands beyond a broad ochre beach, their dark roofs punctuated by chimneys. Thin white waves follow a curving shoreline from the lower left towards the houses. Offshore, a small boat carries dark red sails, while a tall aerial rises beside the end cottage. Clear blue sky and pale clouds leave the scene open and bright, suggesting settled summer weather.
