Description
Skipsea in eastern Yorkshire unfolds as a patchwork of green and straw yellow, with a small church and scattered cottages lending human scale to the wide aerial view.
The castle at Skipsea occupies a mound now known to date from the Iron Age. Later reused for a Norman stronghold, the earthwork lies in Holderness about two kilometres from the North Sea, placing a layered archaeological site within East Yorkshire’s coastal farmland.
A rounded green mound sits near the centre of a broad aerial view. Hedged fields in green and straw yellow surround it, with cottages and a small church gathered along curving roads below. Beyond, the sea forms a blue strip beside a pale beach. Full trees and cropped fields suggest high summer, with bright cloud shadows passing over the level countryside.
