Paul Klee, a Swiss-German artist, developed a highly individual style that synthesised elements of Expressionism, Cubism, and Surrealism. His work is characterised by its childlike simplicity, use of colour theory, and incorporation of symbolic forms. He taught at the Bauhaus school and later at the Düsseldorf Academy. Klee's art often explores themes of nature, music, and the subconscious. His unique approach has secured his place as one of the most important figures of modern art. 'Southern Gardens' presents a patchwork of geometric shapes and symbolic motifs. The composition is divided into irregular sections, each filled with muted colours and textured surfaces. Stylised plant forms, rendered in green and red, punctuate the arrangement. A central, semi-circular shape dominates the middle ground, adding a focal point to the abstract design. Paul Klee
Paul Klee was a Swiss-born artist whose distinctive style drew from expressionism, cubism, surrealism, and orientalism. Originally trained as a violinist, Klee turned to visual art in his teens, drawn to its expressive freedom. Though he initially worked only in black and white and doubted he would ever become a painter, a transformative trip to Tunisia awakened his sensitivity to color and inspired his lifelong exploration of its possibilities. Today, Klee is recognized as a pioneer of color theory, and his Writings on Form and Design Theory are considered as foundational to modern art as Leonardo da Vinci’s treatises were to the Renaissance.
