Description
Spar Cave on Highland Skye looks out along pale coastal cliffs above still blue sea, with scattered white cottages and distant pointed mountains beyond green slopes in bright late summer sunshine.
Spar Cave lies near Glasnakille, south of Elgol on Skye’s Strathaird coast. Its passages contain calcium carbonate flowstone, with steep natural steps leading towards an inner pool. Walter Scott visited in 1814. The approach follows rocky shore ledges that are exposed only around low tide.
Pale layered cliffs step along calm blue water below a green coastal plateau. Small white cottages sit among open fields, linked by a narrow pale lane. Two pointed blue hills rise beyond the left skyline, with lower mountain shapes across the sea. Dense shrubs and rusty heather cover the near slope, suggesting clear late summer sunshine along the coast outside the cave.
