Description
Spurn Head on Yorkshire's eastern edge pairs a tiny striped lighthouse with immense blue shallows, its curling sandy outline making a bold silhouette against the surrounding water.
Where the North Sea encounters the Humber, sediment builds a peninsula of sand and shingle at Spurn Head. This East Yorkshire coastal feature separates the open sea from estuary water, and its form continues to change as material moves along the shore.
Seen from above, a long sandy hook curls around blue-green shallows. Patches of scrub follow its spine, where a striped lighthouse rises as a small vertical marker. Pale beaches border both sides of the thin land, and tidal flats spread beyond the bend. Foreground grasses frame the elevated view beneath brilliant white clouds, giving the exposed coastline a warm, clear summer atmosphere.
