This work depicts two figures, Saint Lawrence and Saint Cyricus, rendered in the distinctive style of the German Renaissance master Matthias Grünewald. Saint Lawrence is shown with his traditional attribute, the gridiron, while Saint Cyricus is accompanied by a small child, referencing his martyrdom alongside his mother, Saint Julitta.

Unlike many of his contemporaries who focused on mathematical perspective, he prioritised the psychological and spiritual weight of his figures.
