Description
St Paul's Cathedral in London crowns a view of angular steel and turquoise glass, its pale dome catching warm light above the rooftops at the far end.
On Ludgate Hill in the City of London, the cathedral occupies the site of an earlier church destroyed in the Great Fire. Christopher Wren's rebuilding gave the capital its familiar domed landmark, linking the present building with the city's recovery after 1666.
The view approaches St Paul's Cathedral along a bridge whose silver supports converge towards the distant entrance. Teal glass panels and dark steps fill the foreground, opening above a narrow strip of river. Beyond warm brick roofs, the dome rises against cream clouds in a blue sky. Clear light gives the scene a mild summer feeling, with cool metal contrasting against the sunlit stone.
