Unlike some of his peers who found inspiration in urban landscapes, Weie often turned to the natural world, particularly the rugged coastlines of Denmark, to express his inner world.

He spent considerable time in psychiatric institutions, and it was during these periods of confinement that he produced some of his most powerful and haunting works.
