Koson is particularly known for his depictions of birds and flowers (kachō-e). He initially trained in painting, but later shifted to woodblock print design. His works were popular both in Japan and abroad. 'Starlings and Cherry Tree' exemplifies Koson's skill in capturing the delicate beauty of nature. The print features two starlings perched on a slender branch of a cherry tree, adorned with bright red berries. The birds are rendered with careful attention to detail, their plumage subtly shaded.
