Umberto Boccioni, an Italian painter and sculptor (1882-1916), was a leading figure of the Futurism movement. Futurism sought to capture the dynamism, speed, and energy of modern life. His influence on modern art, however, remains significant. 'States of Mind III: Those Who Stay' is part of a series of three paintings exploring emotional responses to departure. This work uses a palette of muted greens and blues to convey a sense of melancholy and stillness. Vertical lines suggest rain or tears, blurring the figures and creating a feeling of disorientation.
