Willem Kalf, a Dutch artist born in Rotterdam in 1619, is celebrated for his contributions to still-life painting during the Dutch Golden Age. He spent time in Paris before returning to the Netherlands, where he refined his distinctive style. Kalf's works often feature luxurious objects, demonstrating his skill in capturing textures and light. He died in Amsterdam in 1693. This still life presents a collection of carefully arranged objects on a dark surface. A reflective pilgrim flask and a tall candlestick stand to the left, while a blue and white porcelain vase adds a touch of colour. A glass of red wine and a covered glass container sit behind a scattering of fruit, including lemons and oranges.
