Mary Fedden (1915-2012) was a British artist known for her colourful and informal still life paintings. She studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and later taught at the Royal College of Art. Her work often features everyday objects, flowers, and fruit arranged in simple compositions, characterised by a distinctive use of colour and a flattened perspective. Fedden's style blends elements of Post-Impressionism and Modernism, creating a unique and accessible visual language. This still life presents a white bottle with black lettering, accompanied by several seashells. The background is a light blue with a pattern of white flowers. The lower edge of the composition features a row of dark blue diamond shapes. The painting has a naive quality, with simplified forms and a limited colour palette. The inscription 'Fedden 04' is visible in the lower left corner, indicating the year of creation, and another inscription 'Anna with love' is visible on the lower right.
