Jean-Baptiste Oudry, a French Rococo painter, is best known for his animal and still life paintings. He served as both a professor and later director at the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture, and he also designed tapestries for the Beauvais and Gobelins manufactories. Oudry's attention to detail and ability to capture textures made him a favourite among the French aristocracy. This still life presents a tableau of cultivated nature.
