Description
Stiperstones in Shropshire follows a quartzite ridge shaped by Ice Age frost, with pale rocky tors and a rough path rising through purple heather beneath the warm colour of evening clouds.
Ancient quartzite forms the Stiperstones ridge in Shropshire, where cold conditions during the last Ice Age shattered the rock into jagged outcrops and scattered boulders. Heathland and acid grassland surround these features, forming important habitats within the national nature reserve landscape.
A rough pale-stoned path climbs from the foreground towards low tors on the rounded crest. Purple and pink heather spreads across both sides, mixed with tawny grasses and green shrubs. Beyond the rocks, distant fields fade into blue-grey layers. Heather blossom suggests late summer, while peach and mauve clouds cast warm light over the exposed ridge.
