Josef Albers (1888-1976) was a German-American artist and educator whose work, both in Europe and the United States, helped to define the course of 20th-century modernism. Albers is perhaps best known for his abstract paintings and colour theory, but his practice also included graphic arts and design. He taught at the Bauhaus and Black Mountain College, influencing generations of artists. His series 'Homage to the Square' is a well-known exploration of colour relationships. 'Structural Constellation VI' presents a geometric abstraction rendered with precise lines. The composition features overlapping quadrilaterals, some delineated with heavier lines to suggest depth and form. The lines create an illusion of three-dimensionality on a flat plane. The work is executed with a minimalist approach, focusing on the interplay of line and space. The colour palette is restricted to black, grey, and the off-white of the paper, emphasising the structural aspects of the design.
