Description
Tattershall raises Lincolnshire's red-brick castle tower above green banks and reflective water, with a pale church tower nearby showing the scale and ambition of this medieval lordly setting.
Lord Ralph Cromwell, Treasurer to Henry VI, built Tattershall's great brick keep during the 1430s and 1440s. The Lincolnshire tower was intended to demonstrate wealth, position and power, adding a conspicuous new residence to the castle's existing hall and chambers.
A tall red-brown tower rises from green grass, its round corner turrets and pale window surrounds catching the light. A smaller stone church tower stands among trees to the left. Blue-grey water repeats the castle below the bank. Full leafy canopies suggest summer, while warm daylight separates the brickwork from the cooler reflections and leaves long soft shadows across the lawn.
