Description
The Altar at Harrabrough Head rises from bright Orkney water, with narrow sea arches, a grassy crown and white surf gathered around the dark feet of the rock.
A steep turf-covered slope descends from the near right edge towards the water. Offshore, deep openings divide the reddish rock into separate pillars. Short white wave lines circle their bases, with a low strip of distant land appearing below the pale cloud banks.
At The Altar at Harrabrough Head, the recognisable form is the pierced coastal rock recorded as The Altar, Harra Brough in the retained source. The narrow gaps remain distinct beneath its broad upper surface. Green headland and blue water surround it closely, giving the arches both a clear shape and a convincing coastal scale.
