Description
The Devil's Arse draws the eye down a powerful waterfall between dark crags, where rushing water, lichen-marked stone and high moorland create a dramatic Peak District scene.
A narrow river gathers above the drop before plunging through a deep cleft of vertical rock. Pale water churns at the base, enclosed by blocky grey faces streaked with moss and white lichen. Heather and rough grass soften the upper ledges, while jagged hills build a blue-grey horizon beyond the gorge.
For anyone who has walked this part of the Peak District, The Devil's Arse brings back the sudden sound of water in a sheltered ravine and the open moor rising beyond it. The narrow descent fixes the eye before surrounding slopes take over.
