Description
At The Kelpies, two monumental horse heads rise beside canal water, their pale steel plates catching sun beneath a wide blue Falkirk sky overhead.
A low footbridge crosses the water at the base of the sculptures, while reeds and flowering plants soften the bank in the foreground. The nearer form fills much of the view with a curved muzzle, upright ears and dark circular eye. Behind it, the second structure turns towards open fields, and broken cloud shapes move across the blue above.
For people passing through Falkirk, The Kelpies offer a memorable meeting of canal-side walking and large-scale contemporary form. Visitors can trace the towpath beside the water, while residents recognise the changing light on the structures from different approaches. The railings, planted bank and reflected sky keep the scene tied to the canal.
