This miniature painting originates from the Tuti-nama, or Tales of a Parrot, a significant manuscript commissioned during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Akbar. The work depicts a narrative scene from the eleventh night, where the King of the Ocean, having assumed human form, presents himself before a Raja. The composition follows the conventions of early Mughal manuscript illustration, which synthesised Persian artistic traditions with indigenous Indian styles.

The scene is set against a flat, bold red background, a characteristic choice that directs focus toward the figures. The Raja sits beneath a canopy, attended by a servant holding a parasol, while the King of the Ocean and his companion stand in a gesture of greeting. The figures are rendered with clear outlines and expressive postures, typical of the period's narrative focus. The lower register features a decorative floral border, while the upper section contains Persian text in Nasta'liq script, which provides the context for the visual story.

Ghulam 'Ali, an artist active during the mid-to-late 16th century, demonstrates the stylistic transition occurring in the imperial workshops. The use of opaque watercolour and gold leaf reflects the high status of the manuscript. The figures wear traditional attire, with attention paid to the folds of their garments and their jewellery.
