Description
At The Old Forge, a former works rises beside a narrow river, its tall stack and old crossing giving the Lancashire setting an industrious calm.
Behind The Old Forge, a tapering brick chimney reaches into a bright blue sky above a cluster of white gabled buildings. A broad stone arch carries the road over the river, and the dark water below catches broken reflections from the bridge. Green trees frame the banks, while an arched doorway and slate roofs give the riverside its older texture.
This combination of mill-era form and flowing water speaks to the small-scale industrial history found across Lancashire. For someone who knows the area, the bridge offers a familiar crossing point, with the chimney still marking the settlement from the quieter path beside the river.
