Description
The Serpentine in central London pairs neat rows of white rowing boats with blue reflections, its leafy margins offering a quiet waterside scene beneath bright summer clouds.
Queen Caroline created this Hyde Park lake in 1730 as part of changes to the royal landscape. Its curving shape follows the valley of the Westbourne stream, which now runs underground, linking the park's familiar water with an earlier natural drainage course.
The Serpentine spreads across the view in pale blue and green bands. White rowing boats gather beside the right bank, while smaller blue craft float near the opposite trees. A low timber boathouse stands behind slender flagpoles. Black looped railings and lush planting mark the near edge. Full leaves and strong daylight suggest summer, with gentle ripples softening the reflected canopy.
