This woodblock print, titled The Sound of the Lake at Rinkai, originates from the series Eight Views of the Ryukyu Islands. Katsushika Hokusai, one of the most prolific figures in the Ukiyo-e tradition, produced this work during the later stages of his career. The series explores the geography and atmosphere of the Ryukyu Kingdom, a region that held significant interest for Japanese artists and cartographers of the Edo period.
The composition features a winding stone path that connects a fortified island structure to a mainland complex.
