Description
The Storr on Highland Skye lifts a tall grey pinnacle beside broken cliffs, with sunlit green hollows and lichen marked boulders under broad white clouds in clear summer afternoon light.
The Storr rises on Skye’s Trotternish peninsula, above the Sound of Raasay. Large landslips have broken the eastern slopes into crags and isolated pinnacles. The Old Man stands below the main escarpment, part of the rocky ground known as the Sanctuary north of Portree.
A tall narrow grey pillar rises from a green shelf at the left, separated from the high cliff wall by a deep grassy hollow. Smaller spires project from the broken rim, while dark vertical seams divide the rock faces. Lichen marked foreground blocks rest in short turf. Sunlit grass and broad white clouds suggest clear summer afternoon weather below the steep escarpment.
