The image depicts a scene within a hospital ward, capturing a moment of interaction between a naval officer, a nurse, and a patient. The officer, dressed in his dark military uniform, stands near a chair, while the nurse in her white uniform attends to the patient resting in bed. A chart on a stand near the bed suggests a clinical setting, reflecting the medical themes often explored in literature and art during the Sino-Japanese War period.
Kajita Hanko was a prominent figure in the Nihonga tradition, known for his ability to blend traditional Japanese aesthetics with the changing social realities of the Meiji era.
