Description
Tobermory on Mull's northeastern coast in Argyll is known for its colourful harbourfront, where a planned fishing settlement developed around a naturally sheltered bay in the Inner Hebrides.
Established by the British Fisheries Society in 1788, Tobermory developed beside a natural harbour sheltered by Calve Island. Building its main street involved cutting into steep ground and reclaiming land from the sea, creating the waterfront that defines the town today.
Red, yellow, mint and cream facades line the far shore, their colours wavering in the blue harbour water. A church spire rises above the buildings, backed by a green hillside with scattered houses. Dark foreground rocks and low purple vegetation frame the view. Cream clouds shaded with lilac suggest soft summer evening light, which leaves the water cooler than the bright waterfront.
