Description
Tongue in Highland Sutherland looks across pale tidal sands towards a jagged blue mountain skyline, with winding turquoise channels and green heather banks beneath tall summer clouds in clear coastal light.
Tongue lies above the eastern shore of its kyle in northern Sutherland, north of Ben Hope and Ben Loyal. The village forms the centre of a wider group of crofting townships. A bridge and causeway built in 1971 connect it with the western side of the inlet.
Pale sandbanks spread across the broad blue inlet, divided by curving turquoise channels. A dark jagged mountain skyline rises behind low wooded points, with tiny white houses along the far shore. Grey boulders and rust coloured heather break the near green slope. Tall cream clouds above the clear distant ridges suggest summer weather with an open view across the tidal flats.
