Description
Torridon in Highland Wester Ross lifts mauve mountain shoulders above flat blue water, with green shore pools and golden tidal margins beneath broad white clouds on a bright late summer day.
Torridon’s mountain country in the northwestern Highlands is dominated by ancient sandstone, with older Lewisian gneiss forming lower ground to the west. The National Trust for Scotland estate includes Liathach and Beinn Alligin. Its mix of high ridges and coastal habitats supports rare plants as well as golden eagles.
Broad mauve crowns rise beyond a long belt of green shore woodland. Flat blue water meets gold brown margins, where shallow pools cut into the near grassy banks. Grey boulders and rusty heather occupy the lower edge beneath the mountains. Clear skies and warm, snowless slopes suggest a bright day late in summer, with soft cloud reflections across the sheltered inlet.
