Description
Totton meets the tidal Test in Hampshire, where an old stone bridge crosses reflective water beside saltmarsh, low houses and an unusually expansive cloud-filled estuary sky.
At Totton and Eling, Redbridge Bridge crosses the River Test at its lowest tidal crossing. Historic England lists the stone road bridge at Grade II*, placing this quiet-looking structure within the long history of movement across Southampton's western river approach.
Five dark arches punctuate a pale parapet, with ivy trailing down the masonry. Blue-green reflections widen towards the foreground, while exposed muddy edges and marshy channels extend behind the crossing. Red-roofed houses line the right bank beneath towering cream clouds. Leafy shrubs and warm grass suggest a summer day; the broad sky gives the low estuary landscape much of its scale.
