Description
Pale dunes overlook Tràigh Siar on Vatersay in the Outer Hebrides, where a wrack-lined shore curves towards low rounded hills and small waves break across the blue Atlantic bay.
Vatersay’s western beach lies on the Atlantic side of the narrow isthmus joining the island’s two halves. Also called Bagh Siar, it sits below the low hills of Beinn Ruilibreac. The Vatersay Trail crosses this shore before continuing around the southern part of the island.
At Tràigh Siar, tufts of yellow-green grass spread across pale sand hummocks in the foreground. A dark ribbon of seaweed follows the beach above the waterline, with grey pebbles along its near edge. Thin white wavelets curve into the bay. Across the water, gentle rocky slopes close the horizon beneath long bands of cream cloud.
