This miniature painting, originating from the Indian subcontinent, displays the stylistic conventions of eighteenth-century courtly art. The composition centres on a gnarled tree, rendered with a focus on decorative form rather than strict botanical accuracy. Its trunk and branches are painted in earthy tones, while the foliage is depicted through layered, stylised clusters of leaves. The background features a flat, muted red wash, typical of the period, which pushes the subject to the foreground.
At the top right, a small, golden bell hangs in the sky, a detail that suggests a narrative or symbolic function common in religious or courtly manuscripts of the era.
