Lucebert, born Lubertus Jacobus Swaanswijk, was a central figure in the Dutch post-war avant-garde. As a poet and painter, his work often bridges the gap between linguistic expression and visual abstraction. This piece, titled Twee organische vormen, demonstrates his characteristic approach to spontaneous mark-making and the exploration of biomorphic shapes.

The composition is divided into two distinct visual registers. The upper section features a fluid, translucent wash of ink, suggesting a weightless, cloud-like form. The application of the medium allows for subtle tonal variations, ranging from pale grey to deeper, saturated shadows where the ink has pooled. This ethereal element contrasts with the lower section, which is defined by sharp, decisive lines and dense, opaque ink splatters. Here, the forms appear more grounded and creature-like, echoing the raw, primitive aesthetic often associated with the CoBrA movement.

Lucebert frequently utilised a combination of controlled drawing and accidental ink distribution to create his imagery.
