Description
In Uffington, a grassy churchyard avenue leads between dark yews towards St Michael and All Angels, with sunlit stone rising above the trees in this quiet Lincolnshire setting.
Uffington is a village in Lincolnshire, represented here by its parish church. The entrance has a deeply recessed pointed arch, and tall narrow windows break the pale masonry. Weathered headstones occupy the lawn beside the approach, with a low nave stretching to the right.
Bands of yellow-green light cross the ground beneath dense foliage, creating a rhythm of sun and shade along the worn path. Small stone projections pick out the edges of the soaring spire against blue sky. This close churchyard view of Uffington gives the tall architecture a sheltered setting among mature trees.
