Description
Uffington White Horse in Oxfordshire marks a chalk hillside above a dry valley, its slender prehistoric outline stretching across green downland beneath the open sky of the Ridgeway escarpment.
At White Horse Hill, Uffington White Horse belongs to an ancient landscape beside the Ridgeway. The chalk figure dates to the late Bronze Age or early Iron Age and lies on the escarpment over a dry valley, overlooking the surrounding Oxfordshire countryside.
Long white lines define an unusually slender horse across the upper green slope. Its small head and extended legs contrast sharply with the grass, while darker shadows emphasise folds in the hillside. Low shrubs gather below the figure, and distant blue land appears at the left. Bright grass suggests summer, with soft cloud shapes above a clear sky.
