Description
Upholland's stone church tower stands beside a curving village road, with iron churchyard railings and closely grouped frontages giving this Lancashire street its distinctive approach to St Thomas the Martyr.
Upholland is a Lancashire village with its church frontage directly beside the public pavement. A pointed window rises beneath the clock faces, and corner pinnacles punctuate the battlemented tower. Across the bend, pale plaster and dark timber contrast with a central stone gable.
Golden light catches the masonry above a narrow path, while dense trees close the view between the buildings. The road edges and long iron boundary follow one another towards the shaded turn. These neighbouring surfaces place Upholland's church within the everyday street and keep its setting close to the village buildings around it.
