Description
Upper Wye Gorge follows a deep blue river between pale cliffs, wooded slopes and a narrow towpath, with heather and limestone close in the foreground.
From the high rim of Upper Wye Gorge, pale limestone cliffs rise in tiers above a dark blue river. Dense trees cover both banks, broken by a small green meadow and a narrow path following the water's edge. The nearest rocks are fringed with purple heather and short grass, giving texture to the viewpoint. Farther upstream, the river turns between wooded slopes towards softer hills under scattered cream clouds.
The scene suits anyone who knows the pleasure of reaching a viewpoint after a steep climb. It draws attention to the river's steady course below, then lets the eye follow the bends through trees and stone towards the open country beyond.
