This exquisite miniature painting originates from the Razm-nama, a Persian translation of the Sanskrit epic Mahabharata commissioned by the Mughal court. Attributed to the artist Sur Das Gujarati, the work demonstrates the synthesis of Persian artistic techniques and Indian narrative traditions that defined the Mughal imperial workshops during the early 17th century.

The scene depicts a moment from the Mahabharata where Vabhruvahana, the son of Arjuna, approaches his father. The composition is structured to accommodate both the narrative text and the visual action. To the right, a block of Persian calligraphy provides the literary context, while the left and lower sections of the page are dedicated to the pictorial representation. The artist employs a flattened perspective, typical of the period, which allows for the clear identification of figures and their specific roles within the story.

Arjuna is shown seated upon a carpet, his posture suggesting a moment of pause or contemplation. Vabhruvahana stands before him, his gesture of respect indicating the gravity of their encounter.
