This six-panel folding screen depicts the celebrated West Lake, a subject with deep roots in East Asian poetic and artistic traditions. Kusumi Morikage, a student of the Kano school who later developed an independent style, employs a restrained ink-wash technique to capture the atmospheric conditions of the site. The composition relies on the interplay between solid forms and empty space, a hallmark of the period's aesthetic preference for suggestion over explicit detail.

The scene features architectural elements, including pavilions and arched bridges, nestled among weeping willows and craggy hills. Small boats traverse the water, providing a sense of scale and human presence within the expansive environment. The artist uses varying densities of ink to create depth, with distant mountains rendered in soft, blurred washes that recede into the background, while the foreground structures are defined by more precise, controlled brushwork.
