This woodblock print by Ippitsusai Buncho depicts a waitress employed at the Minatoya teahouse. The artist, active during the mid-Edo period, is known for his contributions to the development of the bijin-ga genre, which focuses on the portrayal of beautiful women. Buncho often utilised a slender, elongated figure style, which is evident in the graceful posture of the subject here.
The composition features the waitress standing beside a wooden counter, holding a document or menu. A tea kettle sits on a small stove in the background, providing context to the setting. The inclusion of calligraphy at the top of the print is a common feature in ukiyo-e works of this era, often linking the visual image to contemporary poetry or popular culture. The colour palette is restrained, relying on soft earth tones and muted greens, which allows the viewer to focus on the linear quality of the figure and the pattern of her kimono.
