Description
West Kennet Long Barrow meets open Wiltshire fields through a group of tall weathered stones, with a curving earth path and long summer grass beside the low burial mound.
A broad upright slab rises above several smaller angular blocks near the centre. Behind them, a flat capstone lies close to the turf-covered mound. The bare track bends in from the lower edge, while soft cloud bands leave a pale glow over distant patchwork fields.
The entrance to West Kennet Long Barrow is the focus of the retained source, viewed after the climb from the Kennet and the A4. The open setting allows the irregular stones to stand clearly against the gentler ground. Their pale surfaces and the low grassy ridge give the site a substantial presence without enclosing the wider view.
