Description
A twin-engine Islander crosses above the grass strip on the Westray-Papa Westray Flight, with bright water and low island land shaping this Orkney view.
Seen head-on, the aircraft carries long high wings and lowered landing wheels above a level green runway. Red markers and a black-and-white barrier punctuate the strip; a band of bright water separates it from a low, pale headland and small white buildings. Tall grasses and white blooms fill the front edge.
The Papa Westray community guide describes the Westray-Papa Westray Flight leg as the world's shortest scheduled flight, at under two minutes. The Loganair Islander has ten seats, including the pilot's, and the route operates via Kirkwall on mainland Orkney. This brief crossing connects two of the North Isles.
