At Whernside, the long stone viaduct crosses bright upland fields beneath a broad-topped fell, giving this Yorkshire view a poised meeting of engineering and open country.
Pale limestone blocks occupy the foreground, leading through rough grass towards repeated dark arches. Above them, a light track threads across green and ochre slopes, then climbs towards the layered grey escarpment beneath a sky broken with soft white cloud.
