Description
The Whitendale River draws the eye through this secluded valley, its stony course creating a cool, steady mood beneath the open Lancashire sky and surrounding hills.
Water runs between rounded rocks at the foot of steep grassy banks, narrowing towards a distant notch between the hills. On the right, a rough stone wall follows the river upstream, while dark conifers rise above it. A single broad tree stands on the left slope, balanced by low shrubs and pale clouds across the blue sky.
For walkers who know Whitendale, the river and its enclosing slopes make the valley feel immediate and recognisable. The water’s route between rocks and the wall beside it give a clear impression of moving through the dale, ending at the wooded hillside where the stream disappears from view.
