Burne-Jones utilised his characteristic elongated figure style, which draws inspiration from early Renaissance painting and medieval manuscript illumination. The figures are clad in armour and period-appropriate garments, reflecting the Pre-Raphaelite interest in historical narrative and chivalric themes.
