Description
Wilton in Wiltshire is known for its great house and landscaped grounds, with pale façades, a drooping willow and still blue water bringing a quiet grandeur to this garden view.
Wilton House near Salisbury has been the country seat of the Earls of Pembroke for centuries. Its gardens were reshaped as natural parkland in the eighteenth century, incorporating broad lawns, mature cedars and the Nadder, which was widened as part of the landscape design.
Beyond a calm blue waterway, a pale symmetrical house stands on an open lawn. Its corner pavilions and repeated windows catch warm light, while a red roofed outbuilding sits farther left. A large willow hangs over the bank and tall spreading trees rise behind the house. Fresh reeds and white flowers frame the lower edge, suggesting a bright summer day across the sheltered grounds.
