Description
Winchelsea’s old stone gateway frames a view into the town, with its arch and flanking walls set beneath a clear sky, with the surrounding view held in soft natural light.
The rounded gateway fills the foreground, its pale stone blocks and dark arch opening onto a quiet road. Trees and red-roofed houses appear beyond the passage, with a church tower rising in the distance. Green shrubs soften the walls at either side. The road curves through the gate and leads towards the town. White clouds drift above the roofline, leaving the stonework fully visible.
Winchelsea’s historic entrances give a clear sense of the town’s medieval plan, and this gateway makes the transition from open road to settlement visible. Through the arch, houses and a church tower point towards the streets beyond. The worn stonework marks the age of the passage without needing further ornament.
