Esaias van de Velde (1587-1630) was a Dutch Golden Age painter, known for his contributions to the development of realist landscape painting in the Netherlands. He was among the first generation of Dutch artists to move away from Mannerist conventions, embracing a more naturalistic style. His work often depicted scenes of everyday life, capturing the atmosphere of the Dutch countryside. This painting presents a frozen winter scene, populated with figures enjoying the ice.
