Description
Yalding spans Kent's Medway valley with an old multi-arched bridge, where pale stone, a red parapet and deep blue-green reflections give the riverside crossing its warm, grounded character.
South-west of Yalding in Kent, Twyford Bridge carries the road over the River Medway. Historic England identifies it as a medieval multi-span structure, and the village conservation appraisal dates the crossing to the late thirteenth century, earlier than nearby Town Bridge.
Four pointed arches face the water beneath a long reddish parapet. Golden light catches the pale masonry, leaving the openings dark above rippled blue-green reflections. Trees rise behind the bridge, with white flowers and reeds along the near bank. Dense foliage suggests summer, while the low angle across the channel makes each arch and projecting pier clearly visible against the river.
