This woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige depicts the Tenno Festival at Yoshida, the thirty-fifth station along the Tokaido road. It belongs to the Reisho Tokaido series, a later iteration of the artist's famous travel subjects, characterised by the use of reisho (clerical script) in the series title cartouche. The scene captures a lively procession moving along the riverbank, with participants carrying lanterns attached to long poles. Musicians play drums while others accompany them on horseback, creating a sense of movement and communal celebration.

Hiroshige employs a clear, balanced composition to organise the various figures. The foreground is occupied by the festival participants, while a crowd of onlookers gathers on the grassy bank to the right and in the bottom left corner, their presence indicated by a collection of hats and umbrellas. The artist uses a controlled colour palette, relying on soft blues for the water and sky, contrasted with the warm tones of the lanterns and the patterned garments of the figures. The trees provide a vertical anchor, framing the activity and separating the festival from the distant, darker horizon.

As a master of the Ukiyo-e tradition, Hiroshige demonstrates his ability to document the customs of the Edo period.
